English DiaryEveryday EnglishReading

2022年5月27日

ジョー先生

Like my own children, I teach our students to read English in a similar way.

However, what I have noticed with my own four sons is that each one has a different reading tendency, and also pace. My eldest son was able to read relatively soon, but my second son couldn’t recognize phonetics at the same age level. My third son is more like my eldest son, and my fourth son is like my second son.

Yes, as a parent, it’s frustrating to see my sons not figuring out a simple two or three letter word, but now I realize better that this “struggle” is the inner workings of the child’s mind and is a necessary step in the process of learning how to read.

Patience and persistence.
